When learning to read texts in French, students build on the knowledge and skills developed through oral communication.
In order to understand and respond to written materials, topics are introduced in a meaningful context that encourages students to think about what they are reading.

As a Grade Four Teacher, I highly recommend reading and teaching this wonderful story, "The Clever Cat".
All the students in my class related to the main character "David" and his desire to care for and love a pet.
The accompanied lessons Mr. Khoury provides span the Language Arts curriculum with various skills to be learned such as: parts of speech, punctuation rules, vocabulary building, comprehension and thought provoking questions requiring the students to put into words their opinions, personal feelings and experiences.
The children especially enjoyed working in groups and brainstorming ideas to present a drama/skit from a passage in the book.
The Clever Cat also coincides with the Grade Four Fully Alive Program in which responsibility and commitment are emphasized.
This book is a beautiful teaching tool!
